(System) skin, hair, nails, sweat glands, and sebaceous glands; eye, ear, nose, and tongue.
skin and sense organs
(Cavity) contains brain, pituitary gland.
cranial
(Cavity) contains lungs, heart, esophagus, trachea, bronchial tubes, thymus gland, aorta.
Thoracic
(Division of thoracic cavity) space surrounding each lung.
pleural cavity
(Division of thoracic cavity) centrally located space outside of and between the lungs. It contains the heart, aorta, trachea, esophagus, thymus gland, bronchial tubes, and many lymph nodes.
mediastinum
The double-folded membrane surrounding the abdominal cavity. It attaches the abdominal organs to the abdominal muscles and surrounds each other to hold it in place.
peritoneum
Area behind the abdominal cavity where the kidneys are located on either side of the backbone.
retroperitoneal area
Muscular wall which divides the abdominal and thoracic cavities.
diaphragm
(Cavity) contains the stomach, small and large intestines, spleen, pancreas, liver, gallbladder.
abdominal
(Cavity) contains portions of the small and large intestines, rectum, urinary bladder, urethra, and ureters; uterus and vagina in the female.
pelvic
(Cavity) contains nerves of the spinal cord.
spinal
A double membrane that surrounds the lungs and protects them.
pleura
When the _____ is inflamed and the _____ cavity fills with fluid
pleural effusion
Collection of fluid in the peritoneal cavity.
ascites
