Body Systems Flashcards
Cell
A cell is a micro part of an organism, billions of it make up a human
Tissue
A group of cells working to perform a function
Organ
A group of tissues working together to perform a function
Organ system
A group of organs working together to perform a function
Tendon
Joins a muscle to the bone
Ligament
Joins 2 bones together
Hierarchy of living things
Organism ⬇️ Organ system ⬇️ Organ ⬇️ Tissue ⬇️ Cell
Bone
A tissue that forms a hard substance to protect organs or muscles, it is also the structure of the body
Joint
A joint is when a bone meets a bone
Muscle
Muscles allow the movement of the skeleton
Antagonistic muscle pairs
A pair of muscles that work together to control the movement of a joint.
What is synovial fluid?
Synovial fluid reduces friction of bone to allow more movement
What does cartilage do?
Cartilage acts as a lubricant for the bones, it is also shock absorber and reduces friction much like synovial fluid
Bone marrow
Bone marrow produces red blood cells for the organism
Inhalation
When you breath in oxygen and your lungs and ribs expand
