Body Systems Flashcards
Organize the different parts of a general body system in order from smallest to biggest.

Respiratory and Circulatory Systems
When you breathe in, the air travels in through the mouth and nose and down your trachea, and then through the bronchus tubes, then the bronchioles until it reached the alveoli.
The alveoli are surrounded by tiny capillaries. This is where the gas exchange occurs. Carbon dioxide produced by the body moves through the capillary walls, into the alveoli, where it is exhaled. Oxygen moves from the alveoli and into the capillaries.
Oxygen-rich blood travels from the lungs to the heart, entering through the left atrium, then going to the left ventricle. An artery (the aorta) delivers the blood to the rest of the body, providing each cell with the oxygen it needs.
Once the oxygen in the blood has been depleted, the blood returns to the heart this time through the right atrium and then into the right ventricle. From here it travels out through an artery to the lungs, where the blood receives a new supply of oxygen.
Digestive and Circulatory Systems
Digestion starts in the mouth, where teeth, tongue, and saliva break down the food. Food travels down the esophagus, to the stomach. In the stomach, food mixes with acids that break food into small pieces and kill bacteria.
It then goes to the small intestine, where it is lined with villi, inside are capillaries. Nutrients pass from the villi into the capillaries and into the bloodstream where they are delivered throughout the body. The large intestine is the last stage, where remaining water is absorbed, and the leftover waste exits the body.
Shoot System
Shoot System- transports nutrients to parts.
Root System
Root System- absorbs nutrients from soil.
