Body Systems Flashcards
Where is the GI tract?
Runs from mouth to anus
Process of GI system
Large molecules digest into smaller to be absorbed into veins of small intestine
Venous blood from absorptive parts of GI drain to liver first
What can the liver do in the GI system?
Store nutrients & make other products from them before returning to venous system
Metabolise/Detoxify potentially harmful substances
Cardiovascular System process in delivering nutrients
Absorbed nutrients pass through veins in GI tract first
Venous blood from liver with such nutrients drain track to heart
Circulation
Heart (oxygenated) - Arteries
Arteries - Arterioles
Arterioles - Capillaries
Capillaries - Venules
Venules - Veins
Veins - Heart (deoxygenated)
How does oxygen get into the blood?
In through nose or mouth
Through respiratory tree
Oxygen transferred by diffusion into blood
What is the surface of alveoli like?
The very thin wall i covered with may thin walled capillaries
Haemotological System in oxygen delivery to cells
RBCs reversibly bind oxygen in lungs
Carries it to all capillary beds where it is released/ delivered
Lymph Production
Fluid from capillaries by blood pressure is reabsorbed before blood reaches venules, excess is known as tissue fluid which is then taken up by the lymphatic vessels
Thoracic Duct
Major lymphatic vessel
Returns lymph to large veins in root of neck
