Body's Organ Systems Flashcards
Integumentary
Forms external layer of body. Protects deeper tissue from injury.
Cardiovascular
Blood vessels transport blood, which carries oxygen, nutrients, hormones, carbon dioxide, wastes and heart pumps blood.
Urinary
Eliminates nitrogen-containing wastes from the body. Regulates water, electrolytes and acid-base balance of the blood
Skeletal
Protects and supports body organs. Provides a framework the muscles can use to cause movement. Blood cells formed within bones and stores minerals.
Endocrine
Glands secrete hormones that regulates processes such as growth, reproduction and nutrient use by cells.
Digestive
Breaks down food into absorbable nutrients that enter the blood for distribution to body cells
Muscular
Allows manipulation of the environment. Maintains posture and produces heat.
Respiratory
Keeps blood constantly supplied to oxygen and removes carbon dioxide.
Reproductive
Function of reproductive system is the production of offspring
Nervous
Control system of the body which responds to internal and external changes by activating appropriate muscle glands.
Lymphatic
Picks up fluid leaked from blood vessels and returns it to blood. Houses white blood cells involved in immunity.
