What are the principles of proper Body Mechanics?
Plan before attempting
Balance (stability) - Wide base of support, Low center of gravity
How do we lift loads?
Position object close (lever arm)
Center of gravity close together (load at waist level if possible)
Move your feet & Don’t twist
Nose over toes
How do we lift when using ‘Valsalva Manouver’(person in wheelchair)?
Lift with legs & ‘neutral’ lumbar spine
Do not hold breath
What are the physical factors for safe lifting?
Proper footwear
Lift within your ability
Keep load close to body
Lift with large muscle groups
Mentally & physically prepare for lift
