Body directions, cavities, cells & systems Flashcards
vertical plane that divides the body into front and back sections
coronal plane
vertical plane that divides the body into left and right sections
sagittal plane
moving inward toward the midline of the body
medial
moving outward away from the midline of the body
lateral
divides the body into upper (superior) and lower (inferior) sections
transverse plane
moving towards the head
cephalad
moving toward the tailbone
caudad
moving away from the trunk of the body towards the fingers or toes
distal
moving away from the fingers or toes toward the trunk of the body
proximal
network of channels throughout the cytoplasm that transports materials. Also the site of protein, fat and glycogen production
endoplasmic reticulum
curved, stacked membranes that process and store proteins (hormones and enzymes) until they are released into the cell. (also makes lysosomes)
Golgi apparatus
small sacks that contain digestion enzymes to destroy invaders of the cell. Also dissolves cell upon death.
lysosomes
