BME 506 Week 4 Concept Memorization Flashcards
What is Gait Analysis
it is the quantitative and qualitative analyses of human locomotion
What is the Gait Cycle
It is the period of time from inital contact (foot to ground) to the next point of initalc contact for the same limb
It is broken into two cycles: Stance phase - 60% and Swing phase 40%
What events are in Stance Phase
- Heel strike (aka initial contact)
- Foot flat
- (Sub phase) - Mid-stance
- Heel off
- Toe-off
What is event in swing phase
- Start at toe-off and ends at heel strike
What is double support in Gait cycle *
When both feet are in contact with the ground
Will a faster gait have more/less % time in double support
It will have less time, since as gait becomes faster, there is less time that both feet will actually be on the ground. a good example of this is when running, there is very little time during double support
What are some Spatiotemporal factors (meaning in gait analysis space and time factors)
- Stride Length
- Distance travelled between two HS of the same foot
-** Cadence: Steps per minute ** - Step Width
- Step Length
What are the Axes and Planes of Body
Planes:
- Frontal / Coronal
- Sagittal
- Transverse/Horizontal
What do these other anatomical terms means:
- Mediolateral
- Anteroposterior
- Proximal to Distal
- Cranial to Caudal
Mediolateral - Refers to the direction or axis from the midline of the body outward to the sides.
ex: Lateral Lunges – Step to the side and lower into a lunge position, targeting the inner and outer thighs.
Anteroposterior - Refers to the direction or axis from the front to the back of the body.
Proximal to Distal - closer to farther from the body’s center
Cranial to Caudal - Head to toe
What are some Abnormal Gait Patterns
Elderly
- Will walk slower
- Spend more time in stance phase
- More time in double support
