Bio-transport lab study Flashcards
Laplace pressure
Created due to surface tension at the interface between a liquid and a gas.
It describes the pressure difference across a curved liquid interface
What is surface tensions
The cohesive force at the liquid-gas interface that causes liquids to minimise their surface area SA
What is contact angle
The angle formed between a liquid droplet and a solid surface determining wettability
Wettability
The degree to which a liquid speads on a surface, influenced by hydrophlici or hydrophoic properties
Receding and Advancing angles
Measures of how a droplet spreads or contracts on a surface when the surface is tilted
Sliding Angle
The angle at which a water droplet overcomes adhersion and starts to slide on a tilted surface
Capillary action
The ability of a lquid to flow through narrow spaces without external forces, driven by adhesive and cohesive force
