What is blow moulding?
Blow moulding is used to make products that are hollow like bottles and containers.
How is the tube of soft plastic formed?
Plastic is extruded through a dye.
What is the name of the plastic tube?
The plastic tube is called a Parison.
Where do you need to put the tube?
You need to put the plastic tube in between the cavity of the moulds, until it reaches the air holes.
What happens after the machine is sealed and why?
After the machine is sealed hot air is forced into it. This is done because it forces the plastic to move to the sides and then produces an even sized product.
How does the plastic stay in the desired shape?
The metal cools the plastic making it firm and solid.
What are the advantages of blow moulding?
The advantages of blow moulding are that it is a quick process. Also it can be fully automatic.
What are the disadvantages of blow moulding?
Non circular shapes could be produced, the moulds are quite expensive to produce and vary a lot, also it is difficult to produce the shapes that are hard to remove out of the mould.
What characteristic do most blow mould products have?
Most of them have a narrow neck and opening on one side.
What other bottles can the process form?
Glass bottles.
