Q

Tunica intima

A

Inner layer of vessel wall.
The endothelial lining
connective tissue layer
Internal elastic membrane (in arteries)

Q

Tunica media

A

Middle layer of vessel wall.
Contains concentric sheets of smooth muscle in loose connective tissue
Encircles the endothelium that lines the lumen (interior space) of the blood vessel
Binds to inner and outer layers
External elastic membrane
Separates tunica media from tunica externa

Q

Tunica externa

A

Outer layer of the vessel wall.
Anchors vessel to adjacent tissues
Contains, Collagen fibers. Elastic fibers, Smooth muscle cells (in veins)

Vasa vasorum

A

Small arteries and veins in walls of large arteries and veins
Serve cells of tunica media and tunica externa

Q

Differences between arteries and veins?

A

Arteries have thicker walls and higher blood pressure than veins
A constricted artery has a small, round lumen
A vein has a large, irregular lumen
The endothelium of a constricted artery is folded
Arteries are more elastic than veins
Veins have valves

Map

A

(systolic pressure - diastolic pressure = x) x dived by 3 = that number + diastolic pressure

Q

F = P/R mean? (Note: F = flow; P = pressure; R = resistance)

A

Increasing P and decreasing R will increase F.
