Blood Vessels Flashcards
Describe an artery
An artery has thick walls, a small lumen, and a thick layer of muscle and elastic fibres
Describe a vein
They have relatively thin walls, a large lumen, and often have valves
Describe a capillary
They have a tiny vessel with narrow lumen, and a capillary’s walls are a single cell thin.
Which blood cell has a pulse?
The artery
Which blood cells don’t have a pulse?
The vein and capillary
Which blood cells are visible to the naked eye?
The artery and vein
Which blood vessel is microscopic?
The capillary
Which blood vessel is microscopic?
The capillary
What is the function of the capillary?
Diffues oxygen, glucose, urea and CO2 through tiny pores
What is the function of the artery?
Takes blood away from the heart; they have elastic walls that can stretch and recoil
What is the function of the vein?
Veins take blood back to the heart
What is a pulse?
A pulse is where an artery runs close to the surface often over a bone.
