what is the function of arteries?
A
they carry blood away from the heart at high pressure they have thick muscular walls made of elastic fibres to withstand high pressure.

what is the function of veins?
A
veins carry the blood back to the heart under low pressure, therefore the walls are thinner. they also have valves to stop the blood flowing backwards.

what is the function of the capillaries?
A
they carry substances for cells. they have one cell thick walls so that they exchange substances with cells and tissues.
