Blood supply to brain Flashcards
what supplies the anterior circulation/ hemispheres of the brain?
the ICAs
What supplies the posterior circulation and what structures does this include?
the vertebral arteries
Brainstem, cerebellum , some of temporal and occipital
where does the middle cerebral artery come form and what does it supply ?
continuation of ICA
from lateral fissure -
lateral parts of frontal, parietal and superior temporal
What are the deep branches of the middle cerebral artery called and what do they supply ?
Lenticulostriate - deep grey matter structure e.g.
Lentiform nucleus , caudate and internal capsule
what branch is the anterior cerebral coming from?
the ICA
Where do left and right anterior cerebral artery anatomoes ?
in the midline of the circle of willis with the anterior communicating artery
what does the anterior artery loop over and supply ?
the corpus callosum , supplying the CC and cortex and medial parts of frontal and parietal
what is the basilar artery made up of ?
the 2 vertebral arteries
what does the posterior cerebral artery supply?
occipital, inferior temporal, thalamus and midbrain
how does the posterior circulation link to anterior ?
the posterior communicating artery
what supplies the superior cerebellum and parts of the midbrain?
superior cerebellar artery
What supplies the pons and descending corticospinal fibres ?
Pontine arteries
what supplies the antero-inferior cerebellum and lateral pons?
anterior inferior cerebellar artery
what supplies the posteo-inferior aspect of cerebellum ?
posterior inferior cerebellar
What does the anterior spinal arteries supply and where do they come from ?
comes from vertebral .
anterior 2/3 rds of the spinal cord
