Blood Supply Flashcards
Anterior cerebral arteries- loss
Contralateral LE sensory and motor loss
Middle Cerebral artery- supplies
Lateral hemispheres- frontal,parietal,temporal
Middle Cerebral artery- loss
Contralateral motor and sensory to face, UE and trunk
Anterior spinal artery- supplies
Anteromedial medulla, ant. Spinal cord
Anterior Spinal cord artery- loss
Inferior alternating hemiplegia- Medial medullary syndrome
- Lateral corticospinal fibers- contralateral hemiplegia of limbs
- Medial lemniscus- contralateral loss of proprioception, vibration sense, discriminative touch
- Hypoglossal nucleus- ipsilateral deviation/paralysis of tongue
Posterior Spinal artery- supplies
Posterior/caudal medulla, post. Spinal cord
Posterior spinal artery- loss
Lateral medullary syndrome
- Spinothalamic tract- contralateral pain/temp
- Spinal trigeminal- ipsilateral pain/temp to face
- Vestibular nuclei- vertigo, nausea, vomiting
- Horner’s- ptosis, miosis (pupil constriction), decreased sweating
Basilar artery- supplies, branches
Pons, cerebral peduncles
- Paramedian
- Short circumferential
- Long circumferential
Paramedian branches of basilar supply
Medial pons
Paramedian branch of basilar loss
Middle alternating hemiplegia
- Corticospinal tract- contralateral limb hemiplegia
- Medial lemniscus- contralateral proprioception, vibration, tactile discrimination
- Abducens- Ipsilateral strabismus
Long circumferential branch of basilar- loss
Lateral pontine syndrome
- Vestibular/cochlear nuc.- vertigo, nausea, nystagmus, deafness, tinnitus, vomiting
- Spinal trigeminal nuc.- contralateral pain/temp for face
- Facial nuclei- ipsilateral face muscles
- Trigeminal motor nuclei- masticatory muscles
Posterior cerebral artery supplies
Midbrain
Posterior cerebral loss
Superior alternating hemiplegia
- Contralateral hemiplegia of limbs, face, tongue
- Ipsilateral eye motor- oculomotor nerve
Arteries that supply midbrain
Posterior cerebral
Superior cerebellar
Posterior communicating
Anterior cerebral arteries- supply
Medial cerebral hemispheres, rostral to parieto-occipital sulcus
