Blood Products Flashcards
What are the ABO compatibility? (antigen and antibodies)
Anti=antibodies
O - no antigens, anti A anti B
A - A antigen, and anti B
B - A antigen, and anti A
AB - AB antigen, and no antibodies
Where are the antigens and antibodies?
Antigen is on the RBC (like the identifiers)
and
Antibodies in the plasma
What happens if there is no compatibility?
Hemolysis
What is Rh (D)?
Anti D antibodies develop in Rh- patients only when exposed to Rh+ RBC (Risk during pregnancy)
What is the Rh Compatibility?
Rh+ - D antigen, no anti D antibodies
Rh- - No D antigen, no anti D antibodies
(Unless exposed to D antigen, then creates anti D)
Antigen and anti are opposite letters, if same then hemolysis/not compatible
