Blood Flashcards
Prolonged PTT
Hemophilia A, hemophilia B, von Willebrand’s disease
Factor VII
Shortest half life (4-6 hours), first factor to become deficient with severe hepatic failure, Coumadin, and vit K deficiency
Von Willebrand’s treatment
DDAVP, cryo, FFP, humate P
How is DIC diagnosed?
Prolonged PT/PTT, thrombocytopenia, decreased fibrinogen
What happens when cyclooxygenase is inhibited?
Results in decreased thromboxane A2 which leads to decreased platelet adhesion and increased bleeding
What are the body’s buffers?
Bicarbonate, hemoglobin, protein dibasic/monobasic phosphate
Increase PaCO2 acutely
Increase bicarbonate by 1
Increase PaCO2 chronically
Increase bicarbonate by 4
Decrease PaCO2 acutely
Decrease bicarbonate by 2
