Blood Flashcards
Plasma
watery, salty fluid.
makes up more than half the volume of the blood
red, white blood cells, and waste co2 are carried here
red blood cells
rbc, erthrocytes, red corpuscles
carry o2 to the issues
hemoglobin molecules provide the red color to the blood
white blood cells
wbc, leukocytes, white corpuscles
destroy microorganisms and produce antibodies to help the body fight infection
Platelets
membrane enclosed fragments of specialized cells
when the fragments are activated they release chemical clotting factors
make blood clots
Pulse
contraction of the left ventricle, sends a pressure wave of blood thoruhg the arteries
peripheral pulses
radial, brachial, posterior tibial and dorsalis pedis
can be flet on the periphery (outer reaches) of the body
blood pressure
force blood exerts against wallls of blood vessels. usually arterial blood pressure is measured
blood pressure
force blood exerts against wallls of blood vessels. usually arterial blood pressure is measured
systolic blood pressure
pressure created in the arteries when the left venticle contracts and forces blood into circulation
diastolic blood pressure
the pressure remaining in the areteries when the left ventricle of the heart is relaxed and refilling
blood pressure numbers
systolic first, then diastolic
perfusion
adequate supply of 02 and nutriends to the cells of the body with the removal of waste products
