skin and temperature regulation
blood vessels in the skin can dilate (increase) to carry more blood to the skin. Heat radiates to the body
blood vessle can constrict to prevent heat loss
sweat glands found in the skin produce perspiration, will evaporate and help cool the body
fat layer beneath the skin serves as a theramal insulator
epidermis
composed of four layers (strata) everywhere
at the palms of the hands and soles of the feet there are 5
outermost layers are composed of dead skill cells
living cells and pigment granular are deeper
no blood vessels or nerves are in this layer
Dermis
layer os skin below the epidermis, right in blood vessels, nerves and specialized structures-
-sweat glands
- sebaceous (oil) glands
- hair follicles
-nerve endngs
subcutaneous layers
layers of fat and soft tissue below the dermis
- shock absorption and insulation are the major functions of this layer
