Stores Management System
Purpose of SMS
Manages the release, carriage, control, data transfer and required interfaces of kill stores and search stores carried on the P-8. Provides interfaces and controls for subsystems supporting the release and control of the kill and search stores
Purpose and function of Stores Management Computer
Central control point. Provides interface with flight deck, weapons control panel, MCDS and ten station control units
Purpose and function of Stores Management Weapons Control Panel
Apply power. Provides controls to release sonobuoys, select type of jettison and execute jettison cycle
Purpose and function of Stores Management MCDS - Ordnance Panel
Controls SMS and collects statuses. Provides necessary data fir SMS to function and provides human interface through which the operators can input commands and observe the SMS
Purpose and function of Stores Management Control Wheel Release Switch
Provides pilot and copilot the ability to release weapons from flight deck, provided the weapon has been selected at MCDS control panel

Primary function of APS
To activate the BRU’s to deploy the stores

Allow isolation of pneumatic source to the BRU’s

Station Control Units (SCU) function
Provide power and control for SLS
Sonobuoy Rotating Launchers (SRL) function
Used to rapidly launch up to 10 sonobuoys (rotating racks)
Single Sonobuoy Launchers (SSL) function
Suspending and releasing individual sonobuoy
Sonobuoy Launch Tubes (SLT) function
Provides a path for sonobuoy to depart aircraft
Gate Valves function
Prevents aircraft pressure loss during launcher reload operations in flight
Away Sensors function
Monitor sonobuoy and give system indication during sonobuoy release
Storage Racks function
Provides storage for extra sonobuoys (each wine rack can hold 48)
Free Fall Chute function
Gives the ability to drop marine location markers (MLM) and sound underwater signal (SUS) from an unpressurized aircraft
Purpose of wing pylons
To house components for carriage and release of weapons and stores
