BLOCK II - POWERPLANTS Flashcards
Which lights should be on/flashing while engines are running and demonstrate location?
Anti-collision lights
Nomenclature for P-8A engine
CFM56-7B
What type of engine is in the P-8A?
A high bypass, dual rotor, turbofan engine producing 27,300 lbs of thrust.
Describe the propulsion system
-Primary airflow goes into the core of the engine. The booster increases air flow and sends in to the high pressure compressor (HPC)
-Secondary airflow goes into the fan duct. it supplies approximately 80 percent of thrust during takeoff.
Purpose of the Low Pressure Compressor (LPC)
Increases the speed of airflow
Purpose of the High Pressure Compressor (HPC)
Increase pressure of air from the LPC and sends it to the combustor. Also supplies bleed air for the aircraft pneumatic system and engine air system
Purpose of the APU
-Supplies bleed air for air conditioning (air and ground)
-Supplies electrical power in the ground
-Provides pneumatic power for engine starting and operating two air conditioning packs
Purpose of the Integrated Drive Generator (IDG) Oil Cooler
-It is a heat exchanger
-Uses engine fuel to decrease the temperature of the IDG oil
-Heats engine fuel (stops formation of ice)
What is the Ignition System used?
-Ground start
-Takeoff and landing
-In-Flight (during heavy turbulence or bad weather)
-In-Flight start
What two components are in the Fuel Pump Assembly and describe them?
-Fuel pumps- supplies pressurized fuel to the engine
-Fuel filter- filters fuel
Which fuel tank usually supplies the APU?
Main 1
APU oil burn rate
0.271 fl-oz per hour
