Q

When do you reverse?

A

If a child aged 8-16 does not obtain a perfect score on either of the first two items given, administer the preceding items in reverse order until the child obtains perfect scores on two consecutive items.

Q

What is a rotation error?

A

A pronounced rotation of 30 degrees or more in the child’s construction at the time limit is considered a rotation error.

Q

How do you correct a rotation error?

A

Correct in the first rotation error. Rotate the constructed design to the correct position and say, “See, it goes this way.”

Q

What are Gaps and Misalignments?

A

Gaps or misalignments that are less than or equal to 1/4inch (approximately 1/4 the length or width of a block) are not penalized. Only gaps or misalignments that exceed 1/4inch and remain uncorrected at the time limit are penalized.

Q

What is a dimension error?

A

A dimension error occurs when the max dimension for a square- or diamond-shaped design is exceeded at any time during the child’s construction.

Q

How do you score a dimension error?

A

Only the design with dimension errors that remain uncorrected at the time limit are penalized. Always record if a student made a dimension error on the record form even if it is not penalized.

Q

How do you score items 1-3?

A

Score 2 points if the child constructs the design correctly within the time limit on Trial 1.
Score 1 point if the child constructs the design correctly within the time limit on Trial 2.
Score 0 points if the child does not construct the design correctly within the time limit on Trial 1 or 2.

Q

What is The Block Design Partial (BDp)?

A

BDp total raw score is derived from the total number of correctly placed blocks for all items (including reversal items), and time-bonus points awarded for items 10-13.
Max BDp total raw score: 82 points with time bonus.

What is The Block Design Rotation Errors (BDre)

A

BDre is derived from the total number of constructions with pronounced rotations.
