shock
conditions that occurs when organs and tissues in the body do not receive an adequate blood supply.

when a resident ingests a harmful substance that may cause damage or harm to the resident
myocardial accident
occurs when one or more of the coronary arteries become completely blocked, preventing blood from the reaching parts of the heart causing the muscle cells to die
vomit
act of ejecting stomach through the mouth and or nose
emesis
act of vomiting, or ejecting stomach contents through the mouth and or nose
cardiopulmonary resucitation
medical procedure used when a persons heart or lungs have stopped working
base of support
refers to the area a person that includes every point of contact that the person makes with the supporting surface
F.A.S.T
acronym used as a way to remember the sudden signs that a stroke is occurring; face drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulty, time.
abdominal thrust
method of attempting to remove an object from the airway of someone who is shocking
fainting (syncope)
loss of consciousness for short time because of a temporary insufficient supply of oxygen to the brain
anaphylaxis
an acute allergic reaction to an antigen (ex:bee sting ) that the body has become hypersensitive
conscious
the state of being mentally alert and having awareness of surroundings, sensations, and thoughts
if a person is chocking due to obstruction in the airway you should use:
abdominal pain thrusts to dislodge the object
insulin reaction or hypoglycemia can result from either too much
insulin or too little food
seizure
uncontrolled electrical activity in the brain, which may produce a physical convulsion, minor physical signs, thought disturbances, or a combination of symptoms
aphasia
general term for a group of disorder that affect a person’s ability to communicate with others
dysphasia
impairment of speech that is less marked than in aphasia
CVA aka cerebrovascular accident or stroke
condition that occurs when blood supply to a part of the brain is blocked or a blood vessel leaks or ruptures within the brain
A TIA is:
warning sign of a CVA. its a result of a temporary lack of oxygen in the brain.
