Dominate force between what we are and aren’t going to do
What is theory x?
Negative nelly
People don’t want to go to work naturally
What is theory y?
Work is as natural as play and rest

What is a defense mechanism?
Protect humans against anxiety, unpleasant situations, or provide refuge when we can’t cope
What are the defense mechanism?
Repression Denial Compensation Projection Rationalization Reaction formation Fantasy Displacement
What is repression?
Place uncomfortable thoughts into an inaccessible area of mind
What is denial of reality?
Ignore or refuse to acknowledge their poor performance
What is rationalization?
The student cannot accept the real reason for their behavior
Choose false reasons to blame for what they did
What is fantasy?
Student engages in daydreaming about how things should be rather than reality
Formerly known as flight
What is displacement?
Unconscious shift of emotion, affect or desire from the original object to a more acceptable, less threatening substitute (aggression)
What is anxiety?
State of mental uneasiness from fear
How can we decrease anxiety?
Reinforce enjoyment of flying
What are normal reactions to stress?
Heart quickness
Respond rapidly and exactly within limits
What are abnormal reactions to stress?
Extreme over cooperation
Inappropriate laughter or singing
Very rapid changes in emotions
