Q
Bladder - Location, Structure, Function
A
Location: Lies in front of the rectum in men and vagina in women. The position of the bladder does depend on the volume of its contents. When empty, it is situated within the entire pelvic cavity. As it distends it domes up into the abdominal cavity (a full bladder can reach the level of the umbilicus).
Structure: A hollow organ with 4 surfaces and strong muscular walls. When empty it is tetrahedral in shape.
Function: Serves as a temporary reservoir for urine.
