  • The film was produced by Marvel Studios which are part of the Walt Disney conglomerate
  • The movie was very successful and broke the highest movie opening in the USA and also grossed 1 billion worldwide.
  • One of the only superhero movies to be nominated for a Best picture award too.

  • Superhero genre mainly contained a white male protangonist and we only seem some anamolies of african american actors.
  • Non-white characters which are often sidekicks e.g. the Falcon
  • Black cinema oftenly included social realism and issues rather than blockbuster movies

-Western news represents Africa as under-priveliged and often referred as the ‘dark contient’- Gilroy

  • However, Black Panther includes afrofuturism which is the positive representations of Africa

  • Produced by Marvel but distributed by Disney- Vertical intergration
  • Black Panther was fully owned by Marvel
  • In early 2000s Marvel began film production
  • When Disney bought Marvel they agreed to minimal influence on Marvel products.
  • In 2013, Marvel signed a contract with Netflix but caused conflict with Disney and so was removed
