Bizley Flashcards
Temporal cohearence
when the AS & VS are occuring at the same time
Binding features
How does VS influence sound processing in AC?
increases representation of sound in a mixture if its temporally cohearent with visuals.
Resolution of vision versus sound
Visual resolution- very spatially precise - in the fovea, 20th of a degree
Sound acuity - 1 degree resolution in midline
Visual one is 20 times better.
What is a higher visual area?
why did they use anathetised ferrets
no attentional affect
can record for longer time
can reversibily silence cortex- thermal cooling.
When is representation of a sound in a mixture enhanced in the auditory cortex
when the luminence of the visual stimuli matches the amplitude fluctuation of the sound and temporally cohearent.
what happened when they silenced SSY
used optical cooling.
why use optical cooling
Pass chilled ethanol through an area you want to silence and drop the temperature to less than 20 degrees= AP stop firing.
This technique is still around today especially when there are limitations with other methods like optogenetics where the signal is too deep into the brain and cannot be recorded.
This technique is also rapidly reversed as you can just bring it back up to temperature.
is integration at the level of sensory
processing or decision making.
Early to supprt perceptual object formation- whereby A&V are combined to create a representation of auditory scene.
