The amount of live births per thousand of the population per year

They argue that the education of women is the most important reason for the long term fall in birth rates, leading to a change in mindset amongst women
Why are children now an economic liability?
Due to children now not having to work in recent years, young people now remain in education until the ages of 18 , this places a financial burden on the family so parents may now want to have fewer children
What does Pilcher argue about reasons for the decline in birth rates ?
Argues that society has become more child centered , meaning society nowadays places a great importance on children , to spend money on them and spend time, therefore parents may limit the amount of children they have

How does seclurisation link to the decline in birth rates?
Less individuals become religious and follow religious practices such as less church attendance , they may be taught about anti abortion so not going to the church will disregard people from these beliefs and let them make their own decisions
