What does PROM stand for?
premature rupture of membranes
Describe the latent phase?
painful uterine contractions, some change to the cervix, and dilatation up to 4cm
If the amniotic fluid was a greeny yellow colour, what might this indicate?
This could indicate old meconium, post-maturity, but it is normal
What does an amniotic fluid that is dark brown indicate?
This indicates interuterine death,and still birth
What hormone is known to reduce contractions during labour?
Adrenaline
How many contractions should we see during the first stage of labour?
3-4 every 10 mins
How often should we take temperature, blood pressure, and offer a vaginal examination during the first stage of labour?
4 hourly
For fetal assessment during the first stage, how often should we auscultate the fetal heart, and categorise CTGs?
Auscultate=every 15mins
CTGs= categorise every 30 mins
Name to problems that can arise if the bladder is not voided frequently during labour?
- can cause obstruction to the passage of the fetus
2. can cause damage to the bladder, for example bruising
