Manic Episode
A. elevated, expansive, or irritable mood, increased goal-directed activity, 1 week (unless hospitalization)
B. three (or more) of the following symptoms (four if the mood is only irritable) SSPF DGR
1. Inflated self-esteem or grandiosity.
2. Decreased need for sleep
3. pressured speech
4. Flight of ideas
5. Distractibility
6. goal-directed activity or psychomotor agitation
7. Risky Behavior
C. ClinSig or psychotic features
D. NBE Substance/Medical Condition
Hypomanic Episode
A. elevated mood/activity- 4 days
B. 3+ sx
1. Inflated self-esteem or grandiosity.
2. Decreased need for sleep
3. pressured speech
4. Flight of ideas
5. Distractibility
6. Increase in goal-directed activity
7. Risky Behaviors
C. associated with change in functioning
D. observable by others.
E. The episode is not severe enough to cause marked impairment in social or occupa-
tional functioning or to necessitate hospitalization. If there are psychotic features, the episode is, by definition, manic.
F. NBE substance.
Major Depressive Episode
A. 5+ sx in 2 week period; at least one of the symptoms is depressed mood/loss of interest 1. Depressed 2. Markedly diminished interest or pleasure 3. weight 4. sleep 5. speed 6. tired 7. worthless 8. think 9. death B. ClinSig C. NBE medical
Bipolar I
A. one manic episode
B. NBE psychotic
Bipolar II
A. 1 hypomanic & 1 depressive episode B. There has never been a manic episode. C. NBE mental D. ClinSig Spec: Most recent episode type Features (anxious/mixed/rapid cycling) psychotic/catatonic features peripartum/seasonal patterns partial/full remission mild/moderate/severe
Cyclothymic Disorder
A. For at least 2 years (at least 1 year in children and adolescents)numerous periods with hypomanic/depressed symptoms that do not meet criteria
B. present for at least half the time; has not been without the symptoms for more than 2 months at a time.
C. Criteria for a major depressive, manic, or hypomanie episode have never been met.
D. NBE mental disorder
E. NBE medical/substance
