Biozones Flashcards
A biozone that is characterized by a relative abundance or quantitative maximum of a species or other taxon or taxa.
Abundance Zone/ Acme Zone
Comprises the strata between two specified lowest and/or highest occurences of a species or other taxon.
Interval Zone
Unfossiliferous interval between two biozones
Barren interzone/interzone/Intrazone
Time span of an Acme zone
Hemera
Sediments accumulated during a hemera
Epibole
Biozone characterized by the association of three or more species or other taxa.
Assemblage zone/faunizone/Cenozone
Time represented by a biozone
Biochron
Range zone consisting of the stratigraphic interval between succesively documented first apperances of forms within an evolutionary lineage.
Lineage zone/ Phylozone/Phylogenetic Zone/Morphogenetic zone
Stratigraphic interval between the appearance of one taxon and the last apperance of a second or additional taxa; i.e., the interval of overlap of the two or more ranges, hence also called overlap of the two or more ranges.
Concurrent zone/ overlap zone/ Oppel Zone
Biozone in which a larger biozone is partitioned by reference to two other taxa where ranges do not overlap. The lower boundary of the partition is the highest occurence of the second taxon, and the upper boundary is the lowest occurence of the taxon.
Partial Range zone
Time span of an assemblage zone
secule
Subdivision of biozone
Subzone
Subzone is divided into?
Zonules
Locality recognized time span of a species or other taxon. The time span of a teilzone
Teilchron
Local range zone of a species or other taxon
