What is the Biopsychosocial model?
An approach that proposes that health and illness outcomes are determined by the interaction and contribution of biological, psychological, and social factors.
What is Mental Wellbeing?
A state in which an individual realizes their own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to contribute to the community.
What are Biological factors?
All physiological factors that originate inside a person and are often not under our conscious control.
Examples of Biological factors: Genetics, Stress response, Hormones, Brain function.
What are Psychological factors?
Internal mental processes that originate inside or within a person.
Examples of psychological factors: Personality, Cognition, Motivation, Perception, Attention.
What are Social factors?
External factors that originate outside a person, involving cultural values and traditions, and skills in interacting with others.
Examples of Social Factors: Social Support, Employment, Poverty, Homelessness, Level of education.
