what to tell a patient regarding pain after a biopsy?

Answer 1

after the LA wears off there will be little pain and swelling , this can be resolved with the use of pain killers such as paracetamol and ibuprofen.

Question 2

What to tell patient regarding bleeding of lesion?

Answer 2

• the area may bleed for a few minutes
• the wound will be stitched
• do not disturb the area as it may bleed again
• it is normal to have some blood stained saliva on the floor of the mouth or on your pillow
• if the area starts to bleed , it an be stopped by applying damp gauze and pressure to the area for 10-15 minutes
• if the bleeding did not stop contact GDH

What other instructions to give to patient?

Answer 3

• be careful not to bite your lip, cheek or tongue during this time
• do not drink hot drinks and alcohol for the remainder of the day
• alcohol can slow down the healing process and may interact with medication
• Cut down on cigarettes for the following week to help healing
• use. of salty mouthwashes 3-4 times a day
• Brush teeth as normal but avoid the area of biopsy
