Biomechanics - Forces Flashcards
What is a kinematic?
is the description of motion (acceleration, distance, speed)
What is kinetics?
is the study of forces that cause motion
Force?
A force is a push or pull
Affects:
- shape of an object
- move the object (speed up, slow down, change direction)
What is the formula for force?
force = mass x acceleration F=Ma (N)
Mass?
Is a measure of the amount of matter an object is made up of (KG)
Acceleration?
Refers to change in velocity- time taken to change position
What are the types of forces?
- Internal
- External
Internal force?
Force generated by muscles (biceps, quads)
What are the four types of external forces?
- Frictional force
- Air/ water resistance
- Weight (not mass)
- Gravitational force
What is frictional force?
friction occurs when two surfaces come into contact with each other
- some sports would require increase friction, some reduced
What is air/water resistance?
movement though water or air creating drag
What is weight (not mass)?
the force that is exerted on the body by gravity (mass x gravity)
What is gravitational force?
causes objects to fall back towards the earth
