Biomechanical Principles Flashcards
What are Newton’s 3 laws of linear motion ?
1st law – law of INERTIA
2nd law – law of ACCELERATION
3rd law – law of ACTION/ REACTION
Explain Newton’s law of Inertia
An object will remain at constant velocity unless an external force is applied to it
Explain Newton’s law of Acceleration
The size and the direction of the force applied determines the size and direction of the acceleration (F=ma)
Explain Newton’s law of Action/Reaction
To every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
What is the centre of mass ?
The point of balance of a body (concentration of mass)
Generally the CoM is in between the hip region
What factors affect stability ?
The height of the centre of mass
Position of the line of gravity
Area of the support base
Mass of the performer
