Biomass Flashcards
Biomass Technologies
Sugar platform technology
Thermochemical Platform Technology
Sugar platform technology
Focuses on converting biomass into sugars, using enzymes or acids.
which can then be fermented to produce biofuels and chemical
Thermochemical Platform Technology
uses heat and chemical processes to
convert biomass into energy and materials.involves methods like gasification, pyrolysis, and
combustion.
: The products from this platform include biofuels,
biochar (which enriches soil), and even electricity.
Solid fuel definition: Solid fuels are combustible
materials that are in solid form
Wood in all it forms
: Liquid fuels are combustible
substances that exist in liquid form. T
Bio-diesel
2. E-diesel
3. Modified Waste Vegetable Fat
4. Jatropha Oil
Gaseous fuels
GOBAR FUEL
BIOGAS
SYNGAS
Gobar gas
Produced by the anaerobic
digestion of cow dung , contains
Methane and CO2
used for small scale electricity generation
Biogas
Gas produced from the anaerobic digestion
of any organic matter, not just cow dung.
This can include food waste, sewage, plant
material, and agricultural residues.
Synthesis gas
A mixture of hydrogen (H₂), carbon monoxide (CO), and often some CO₂, produced by
gasifying carbon-containing materials produced by Gasification of coal, biomass, or waste.
Types of Gasifier
o Updraft gas producer
o Downdraft gas producer
o Crossdraft gas producer
o Twin-fire gas producer
Updraft gas producer
An updraft gasifier has clearly defined zones for partial
combustion, reduction, and pyrolysis. Air is introduced at
the bottom and act as countercurrent to fuel flow.
Downdraft gas producer
In downdraft gasifier air is introduced into downward
flowing off at the bottom
Air pollution caused by biomass
Incomplete combustion of biomass
Carbon monoxide
Methane
Black Carbon
