BIOLOGY- URINE SYSTEM Flashcards
what does the urine system consist of?
Kidney, ureters, Bladder, Uretha
what is the urinary muscle
hollow muscular organ that collects urine from the kidneys before disposal by urination
Where does the urine enter the bladder
through the ureter
how does the urine leave the bladder
by the urethra
what are the two types of blood vessels attached to the kidney
renal arteries and the renal veins
what does the renal arteries do
deliver an oxygen rich blood supply to the cells in each kidney
what happens when the blood is processed at the renal arteries
the blood leaves the kidney via the renal veins and is transported in the inferior vena cave back to the heart
what are the 2 main functions of the kidney
excretion
osmoregualtion
what does excretion do
removes potentially toxic waste products made in cells during metabolism
what does osmoregulation do
the homeostatic control of body water by adjusting the solute conc of cells and body fluids. This ensures that cells do not burst which would affcet cell reactions
what does the ureter carry
urine from kidneys to bladder
what does the bladder store
urine prior to removal
where does kidney receive blood supply from
the renal artery
what does the kidney consist of
nephrons
how does flitered blood leave the kidneys
through the renal veins
