Biology Review Test 3 Flashcards
What is chromatography
the process of seperating substance based on their size
How did we use chromatography in the lab and what a real-life example of how this can be used?
We saw how far the particles moved on a piece of paper. This can be used by testing for drugs using urine
What is the balanced formula for photosynthesis? How is this related to that of cellular respiration
6H2O + 6CO2 light equals C6H12O6 + 6O2
The result of photosynthesis is ATP. Cellular respiration is the opposite of this process.
VanHelmont
plants don’t eat dirt and water
Priestly
plants produce gas
Ingenhousz
plants need light
Tell me the difference and give me an example of autotroph and heterotroph
autotroph- self-feeder- plants
Heterotroph- other eater- animals
What are pigments? Give three examples
Pigments are light-absorbing molecules.
- Beta Carotene(orange)
- Xanthophyll(yellow)
- Chlorophyll a and b(green)
- Tannin(brown)
Why are plants typically green?
Plants reflect green
Why do leaves change colors in the fall
They change color because the plants store the nutrients in the branches, there’s less sun, and the sugar reacts with the anthocyanins causing reddish colors.
Tell and illustrate the difference between AMP, ADP, and ATP
AMP- one phosphate
ADP- two phosphates
ATP- three phosphates
drawing
Summerize the light dependent reaction using key words
Uses light to create energy(glucose) for the cell
Summerize the calvin cycle using key words
Uses the glucose and makes it usable for the plant
What does glycolysis mean? Show a diagram for glycolysis
Breaks glucose in half by producing pyruvic acid and NADH
How many ATP are produced in glycolysis, Krebs Cycle, ETC, and total?
36 total
Krebs Cycle- 2
ETC- 32
Glycolysis- 2
