BIOLOGY Quiz - Perch Flashcards
So that I can pass my Quiz!!
Spleen
Filters and stores blood
Ventrical
Muscular structure that pumbs blood to the gills for oxygen echange
Intestines
Digestine of food and absorbtion of nutreints, movement of undigested wate to the anus
Swim Bladder
Functions as a orang enabling the fish to maintain its depth without floated upward or sinking (Not found in sharks)
Liver
Detoxifies blood and produces bile for fat digestion
Atrium
Receives dioxygenated blood from the body and pumps it into the ventrical
Ovary
The femal gametes, which are the eggs
Pancreas
Enzymes producing stucture of digestion; insulin production
Testis
The male gametes of a fish
Stomach
Muscular structure that mixes and stores food; food broken down by digestive juices
Heart
Pumps blood for animals with gills and single circulation
Mouth
Specially adapted mouth that extends to form a large gape; the mouth is then quickly retracted resulting in a suction drawing prey into the mouth
Eye
Paired; does not have eyelids
Nostrils
Paired; used to sense chemicals in the water; not connected to the throat
Gills
Feather-like structures; used to remove oygen from water for repiration
Dorsal Fin
Help stabilize the fish
- Cuadal fins
- Rectoral Fins
- Anal Fins
- Pelvic Fins
- Movent foward
- Maneuverability
- Stabilize
- Maneuverability
Perch (Fish) Characteristics
- Fins - Provide movement foward, maneuverability, and stabilization
- Vertibrate - Has backbone
- Uses gills for repiration
- Lives entire life in water
What are Perch
Perch are vertibrates in a group called the “rayfinned fishes” because they have rays/spines in there fins. They are the largest group of vertebrates; there is more the 20,000 species of these, which is nearly three times the largest group of vertebrates
How are eggs fertilized
Females lay eggs exernally; male spreads gametes (sperm) over them
Things to look for in a Male and Female
- Single gonad in female (ovary)
Paired gonad in male (Testies) - The testies have a smooth glandular apperearance. The ovary has a granluar apperance (many developing eggs)
Operculum
The bony flap that protect the gillls from harm
Laterial Line
Specialezed sensory structure for detecting pressure, changes or movement
Pylaric Caeca
Food storage and digestion
