Biology Photosynthesis Flashcards
What is the aim?
To investigate the effect of light intensity on the rate of photosynthesis using an aquatic organism such as pond weed
Photosynthesis equation
Carbon dioxide + water -> glucose + oxygen
Scientific way of photosynthesis equation
6CO2+6H20 -> C6H12O6 +6O2
What is photosynthesis
Process in which plants, algae and some bacteria transform carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen, in the presence of light.
What will you do in this practical?
will use pondweed to study how varying light intensity affects the rate of photosynthesis, observable through the production of oxygen bubbles. By adjusting the distance between the pondweed and a light source, you will directly measure the impact of light intensity on photosynthesis.
Dependent variable
Numb of oxygen bubbles given off
Independent variable
Light intensity
Control variable
Size of pondweed, vol of water used and temp of water
What is the role of measuring cylinder
To measure the volume of gas produced by the pondweed
What is the purpose of repeating the experiment at diff distances?
To investigate the effect of light intensity on the rate of photosynthesis
