Q

explain the process of breathing

A

air is breathed through the trachea then splits into two bronchi. these split into bronchioles. these end at alveoli for gas exchange

14
Q

how does gas exchange take place in the alveoli

A

oxygen diffuses into the blood and CO2 diffuses our of the blood to be breathed out

Q

what is anaerobic respiration

A

occurs if there is no oxygen.
glucose —-> lactic acid
doesn’t transfer as much oxygen as aerobic respiration

16
Q

what is aerobic respiration

A

uses oxygen, happens in plants and animals in the mitochondria

glucose + oxygen —> carbon dioxide + water

17
Q

what is anaerobic respiration in plants

A

plants produce ethanol instead of lactic acid. in yeast cells this is fermentation

glucose —> ethanol + carbon dioxide

18
Q

what is metabolism

A

all the chemical reactions occurring in an organism

19
Q

explain chromosomes

A

they contain genetic information, found in the nucleus and body cells have 23 pairs
