Biology N5 unit 2 Multicellular Organisms 1. Producing New Cells Flashcards
what is the chromosome comploment
the chromosome compliment is the number of chromosomes present in a cell
what is ment by a cell being Diploid
A cell being Diploid means that the cell has 2 Matching sets of chromosomes One from the female parent and the other Male parent this Ocurred during fertilisation
what Body Cells are Diploid and which are not
All body cells (liver, skin, heart) are Diploid except Sex cells (Gametes)
what is mitosis
mitosis is the process of how new cells are produced
what are the new cells produced by mitosis used for.
Growth,Repair of damaged tissue and replacement of dead or damaged cells
How many chromosomes do new cells produced by mitosis have
new cells produced by mitosis have the same number of chromosomes as the cell that made it.
why do the new cells have the same number of chromosomes that cell produced it do
this is done to ensure all new cells produced have the information to function normally
where are stem cells found
they are found in animal cells
what are stem cells involved in
they are involved in tissue repair growth
describe features of a stem cell
stem cells are unspecialised and can divide in order to self renew and also have the potential to become different types of cells
what are the two types of stem cells
very early embryo stem cells and tissue stem cells
where are embryo stem cells found
embryo stem cells are found in very early stage embryo
where are tissue stem cells found
tissue stem cells are found in the body throughout life
what are multicellular organisms made of
multicellular organisms are made of more than one type of cell, tissues and organs
what is cell specialisation
cell specialisation is when cells become specialised
