Biology - Living Things Flashcards
What are the seven characteristics of life?
Movement, Respiration, Sensitivity, Feeding, Excretion, Reproduction and Growth
What is movement?
It’s when animals move from place to place and when plants grow towards light
What is respiration?
Desperation is the release of energy from food
What are the 5 senses?
Sight, Hear, Smell, Taste, Touch
What are plants sensitive to?
Light, Gravity and water
What is nutrition?
It’s the way an organism gets its food
What is excretion?
Excretion is the release of waste products from your body
What waste products do animals excrete?
Salt, water, carbon dioxide
What is reproduction?
Reproduction is the formation of living things
Why is reproduction needed?
To prevent each type of living thing from dying out
What are the two groups living things are divided into?
Plant and Animal
What are vertebrates?
Vertebrates are animals that have a backbone
What are the 5 different types of vertebrates and give an example for each
amphibians - frog fish - cod reptiles - snake birds - pigeon mammals - cow
What are invertebrates and give two examples
Invertebrates are animals that have no backbone eg, snail, crab, worm, fly, beetle
