Biology - Cells - Study Flashcards
All plants are made of cells-
Schleiden
Who saw living cells under a microscope? Also created a compound microscope?
Leeuwenhoek
All animals are made of cells-
Schwann
Cells come from existing cells by reproduction?
Virchow
What are the 5 scientists name in order of when they discovered their laws?
Hooke
What are the cell theory?
All living things are made of cells. Cells come from other cells. Cells are the basic unit of life.
Whats are the differences between Prokayote and Eukaryote?
Prokaryote- no nucleus, no organelles, example bacteria
Eukaryote- nucleus, organelles, example anything else
What are the differences between Animal and plant cells?
Animal- no cell wall, no chloroplasts, centrioles, vesicles
Plant-cell, chloroplast, no centrioles, vacuoles
What is vacuole called in animal cells?
Vesicle.
Nucleus-
Control Center, holds DNA
Nucleolus-
Assembles ribosomes
Golgi bodies-
Modifies, sorts, and packages proteins from the ER
Lysosomes-
Filled with enzymes to digest organelles.
Smooth ER-
sends materials. Ribosomes not on surface.
Rough Er
Sends messages and materials. Ribosomes found on surface.
Ribosomes-
Found throughout cytoplasm
Chroloplasts-
Green, photosynthesis.
Cell membrane-
Made of proteins and lipids, regulates what goes in and out of the cell.
Cell wall-
Protection of the cell, provides support (dead)
Vacuole-
Saclike structures that stores materials.
Mitochondria-
Converts chemical energy in food into my convenient energy. (Powerhouse)
Cytoplasm-
Substance holding cell organelles in place
Centrioles-
Helps organize cell division (split)
