Biology assumptions Flashcards
State assumption 1
Evolutionary influences
explain evolutionary influnces
Evolution - changes in humans and our behaviour to adapt to demands from our individual environments
* notion of adaptation- Based of charles Darwin’s theory of natural selection.
example of evolutionary influnces
EEA - larger brains relative to body size. certain traits more likely to be naturally selected and passed on. Brains bigger = form alliance and relations in a complex society.
state assumption 2
localisation of brain function
explain localisation of brain function
Different parts of the brain preformance different functions. 2 hemispheres, cerebral cortex and limbic system. frontal lobe = personality (thinking + creativity)
parietal lobe = perceptions
occipital lobe = eyes
temporal lobe = hearing auditory
Any damage in these areas in the brain will cause a change in behaviour
what are the 4 parts of the brain and their function
frontal - Personality
parietal - perceptions
occipital lobe - eyes
temporal - auditory
example of localisation of brain fuction

state assumption 3
‘ neurotransmitters’
explain neurotransmitters
example of neurotramitters
serotonin- too little = depression
