Behavioural therapy SD Flashcards
how do assumptions apply to SD
sd uses principles of classical conditioning (association stimulus)
-> conditions fear to be associated with relaxation- excition of fear as its unlearned
• uses generalisations as its impossible for every situation to be encountered but relax response associated to simular stimulus
• op conditioning principles ; relaxed = rewarding + pos reinforcemenre encourged
main principles of SD
• counter conditioning
•desensitisation hierarchy
•different forms of sd: vitro, vivo
what is counter conditioning
learning relaxation techniques
-> taught new association thsts counters original to create new response link
- reciprocal inhibition - impossible for fear while being relaxed
what is densitisation hierarchy
general steps ( gradual) that are determined are start of therapy ranked least to most feared
what are the different forms of sd ?
vivo - direct fear
vitro - visualising
what is vivo
directly experiencing feared stimuli while relaxing
- more effective menzies and clarkes 1983
