Q

Benefits of an ecosystem:

A
  1. Plants and animals work together to help maintain the balance of gases in the air
  2. Insects birds and bats help pollinate plants
  3. Some organic decompose organic matter
  4. Wetlands and forests clean water

Q

What is parasitism ?

A

A relationship in whihc one organism (the parasite) lives in or on the body of another (the host). The parasite benefits but the host is harmed.

16
Q

What is a habitat?

A

The place where a population of organisms lives.

17
Q

What is symbiosis ?

A

A close physical and long-term relationship between two organisms of different species.

18
Q

Examples of commensalism:

A

Water buffaloes and insects

19
Q

Example of parasitism:

A

Ticks attaching themselves to dogs

20
Q

Examples of mutualism:

A

Oxpecker and zebras. The oxpeckers get food and the beast get pest control.

21
Q

Examples of two non-symbiotic relationships:

A
  1. Predator and prey relationships

2. Completion

22
Q

What is predator and prey relationships?

A

One organism (thepredator) eats another (the pre). Therefore one benefits and the other is harmed. It’s not symbiotic because the relationship between the organisms is not long term and it only happens when a predator has an opportunity. (Hookup)

23
Q

Non-symbiotic relationships: competition

A

Completion may also exist between members of different species that share a resource such as food.

24
Q

What is a biome?

A

An area of the planet that can be classified according to the plants and animals that live in it.

25
Q

Examples of mutualism:

A

Alga and fungus

26
Q

Competition: What is inhibition?

A

One organism produces a chemical that directly inhibits (prevent) or hinders (makes difficult) the growth and development of another.
