biology Flashcards
Organelles
A tiny cell structure that carries out a specific function within the cell
Cell
Basic unit of life. Made up of organelles enclosed in a cell membrane
Tissue
A group of similar cells that perform the same function.
Organ
A collection of tissues that carry out a specialized function of the body.
Organ System
A group of organs that work together to perform a major function.
Organism
Any living thing that is made of cells and can perform all of the seven life processes.
Prokaryote
A unicellular organism that lacks a nucleus and membrane bound organelles
Eukaryote
A complex cell that contains a nucleus and membrane bound organelles
Multicellular
Made up of more than one cell.
Unicellular
Made of a single cell
Endoplasmic Reticulum
the transport system of a cell
Chloroplast
An organelle found in plant cells where photosynthesis occurs.
Light Microscope
A microscope that works by passing light through a thin slice of an object. Lenses are used to make the object appear bigger
Objective Lens
Magnifies the image (lens closer to the object).
Ocular Lens
Magnifies the image (lens closer to your eyes).
