Remains or traces of plants and animals that lived a long time ago.
Extinct
A living thing that is no longer found alive anywhere on earth today.

A scientist studies fossils.
Herbivore
An animal that eats plants.
Carnivore
An animal that eats meat.
Omnivore
An animal that eats both plants and meat.
Organisms
Any living thing.
Mold
A hollow fossils form clearly showing the outside features of the organisms.
Cast
Formed or shaped within the mold.
Imprint (Impression)
A fossil created by a print or Impression.
Amber
Hardened tree sap, often a source or inset fossil.
Trace fossils
Studying trace fossils, we can learn about how animals lived.
True form fossils
An actual preserved body of an animal.
Environment Conditions
A change or disturbance of the environment most often caused by human influences and natural ecological processes.
Erosion (Takes it)
The process of carrying away rooks.
Weathering (breaks it)
A natural process that slowly breaks apart rooks.
Gravity (drops it)
An invisible force that pulls objects toward each other.
