Biological Diversity π¦ Flashcards
What is a variation?
Genetic diversity is the main causer or a variation. Variation is the difference between species and or organisms!
What is a niche organism?
The role an organism plays in a community. This can be how it interacts with other species and how it could make changes on the environment. π
What is a dominant gene?
Dominant refers to the relationship π₯ between two versions of a gene. 2οΈβ£
What is a recessive gene? π
A recessive gene is a gene that can be masked π by a dominant gene.
What are heritable traits?
An offspringβs trait that resembles the parentsβ π¨βπ©βπ§βπ¦corresponding trait more than it resembles the same trait in a random individual in the population. πββοΈ
Examples of heritable traits are:
Eye Colour ποΈ, Tongue rolling π , height π¦, disorders ect.
What is the difference between an organism reproducing sexually rather than asexually?
Asexual reproduction means that one parent makes a baby that looks exactly the same as them. Sexual reproduction means that two parents make a baby that looks different from both of them, like a mixture!
What is cellular respiration?
This is a Process by which cells convert glucose π(sugar) into energy. β‘οΈ
Why do cells need to perform cellular respiration?
A chemical process in which oxygen π¨ is used to make energy from π₯carbohydrates (sugars).
What is photosynthesis?
Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants and some other organisms use sunlight, carbon dioxide and water to produce food in the form of glucose and oxygen.
What is DNA?
Contains all the genetic information and is found in the nucleus of cells.
What is an ecosystem?
Area where plants, animals, and other organisms, as well as weather and landscape, work together to form a bubble of life. π«§
What is mitosis?
π¨βπ©βπ§βπ§
Mitosis is the process by which a cell separates its chromosomes into two identical sets of daughter nuclei.
Is cell division the same as asexual reproduction?
No, cell division and asexual reproduction are not exactly the same.
What is the function of the respiratory system?
The respiratory system is responsible for the exchange of gases (oxygen and carbon dioxide) between the body
